This Is Why Using An Alternative Venue Is Actually Awesome

March 16, 2017

Whether it’s an exhibition hall or a conference room, event venues are important players in how guests interact and engage. In planning corporate events, some clients sometimes voice concerns about not having enough attendance or engagement and are looking for budget-friendly ways to upgrade their event. One of our favorite remedies to the boring board room is an alternative venue! From restaurants to airplane hangars, the venue market has expanded and is now offering more and more to people looking for a new place to host their event.

One of our favorite local venues is The Depot! It’s a popular concert hall here in downtown Salt Lake City, but that’s not all it’s known for. We’ve already started hosting meetings, conferences, and exhibitions in this unique space for clients looking for a change in atmosphere. From the main concert hall to the private reception areas, there are so many options to accommodate any need. Here are a few of our favorite shots from our recent events in this space!

Not only are alternative venues a great option for businesses looking to freshen up their events, it’s also a great way for event planners to really show what they can do. Get beautiful event design that goes beyond conference tables and chairs. Convinced? Here are some of our favorite tips for working with an alternative venue:

Get Creative

You booked this space for a reason! Don’t fall back into the usual routine. Take a risk with innovative design and rentals and recreate your event approach. Finding new ways to represent your brand or business will always be worth the extra time or investment in the long run.

Pro tip: Take advantage of our 35+ years of event design experience. Let our team make the most of your alternative venue!

Stay Functional

So you’ve booked an alternative venue. Congratulations! You’re on your way to an amazing event that will be the talk of the town. However, be careful with your resources. Too often, people get excited about the venue and lose sight of functionality. Make sure to keep in mind event goals and build off that foundation when creating your event.

Make The Most of Your Space

Just because you’re breaking the mold of classic venues, doesn’t mean you’re completely free. Make sure you’re taking advantage of the unique aesthetic of your alternative venue. If you’re in a historic space like The Depot, feel free to go modern, but don’t overwhelm the very elements of the space you were attracted to in the first place. Highlighting overexposed brick, or other architectural features will be the best route for your event design!

Loving the look, but don’t know where to start? In The Event™ is always adding to our current list of alternative venues in our area and beyond. Call us today and talk with one of our event planners for inspiration!
