03 Dec Choosing Event Linen Rentals: Walk-Through and Lighting
There are several elements that go into making an ideal event, and the linens and other table coverings you use may be more important than you think. Serving as some of the broadest and most important visual accents for any event, linens hold major value in terms of the aesthetics and feel of your event.
At In The Event, we’re proud to offer a variety of event rental services, including for a wide selection of linens and coverings that can be used in numerous ways at various events — plus the best event planning services in Utah to help you cover these and any other details involved in the process of planning your event. When it comes to choosing the ideal linens and coverings for any event type, what are some of the most important factors to consider? We’ll go over several in this two-part blog series.
A Walk-Through First
If it’s at all possible, try to find some time to walk through your planned event venue before selecting your linens and coverings. Doing this will give you a much better idea of the types of colors and fabrics that might work best in the space. Plus, it’s always helpful to have a general idea of the layout of your event before making any big decisions.
As you’re walking through the venue, take note of any areas that might be problematic in terms of color or fabric clashes. For example, if your event venue has a lot of hardwood floors and white walls, you’ll want to avoid choosing tablecloths and runners with very busy prints or dark colors. On the other hand, if your event is being held in a more casual setting, such as a park, a simple white tablecloth and matching napkins might be a better option.
Consider Your Lighting
Another vital element to keep an eye on as you’re walking through the venue is the lighting. Different types of light can create very different moods, so you’ll want to be sure that the linens and coverings you choose will work well with the existing light in the space.
If your event is being held in a brightly lit space, for example, you’ll want to avoid choosing dark colors or fabrics with a lot of texture, which might absorb too much light and change the overall feel of your event. On the other hand, if your venue space has low lighting or candles, you can choose more vibrant colors or textures that will glow in the right kinds of light.
To help give you a little additional insight on how to best select linens based on characteristics of your event venue, we’ve put together a few quick tips below.
- When in doubt, choose light colors and fabrics to help brighten up a space
- To offset bold walls or ceilings, choose linens with strong contrasting colors
- Busy prints and patterns can be used to draw attention away from areas with too much light
- Tailor the look to the style of your event, keeping in mind that some looks might not work together at all!
