We specialize in modular LED furniture and are one of the only decor companies in Utah offering modular LED pieces such as tables, bars, cubes, walls, towers, dance floors, and more. With a team comprised of interior designers, we offer services including event decor, florals, display, and full scale event production. We pride ourselves on bringing the most innovative event design and decor to the Utah region. Husband and wife, Robert and GayLyn, have combined their talents in live event production and custom design to create one of a kind concepts for their clients. Robert comes from a background of event producers and brings over 25 years of experience to the company. Born in Las Vegas, he traveled the world with his family producing live events for Theaters, Casinos, Television and even U.S. Presidents. It was during this time he worked with lighting, sound, video, staging and special effects while also learning how to produce, direct and choreograph – giving him an unprecedented background in all production elements of a live staged event. GayLyn spent her upbringing in the retail and commercial design world. This helped her to develop a passion and appreciation for design and led her to a degree in Residential and Commercial design. GayLyn started her professional interior design career in Las Vegas, fulfilling a high level of expectations. From top tier multi-million dollar luxury resort communities, to custom homes and commercial buildings, GayLyn quickly became a “go-to” professional for elite design services.

After over 10 years of miracles in the Las Vegas market, Robert and GayLyn returned to Salt Lake City, Utah to start something new and creative. It was at that time GayLyn and Robert decided to combine their skills and work together as one to build In The Event. As Robert would paint the picture of visual scenery for live production to his clientele, GayLyn was hard at work fueling her own creation and the realities of designing such extravagant occasions. Together they have changed the scenery for live events in Utah. In The Event has an intuitive sense of design which brings elements of theme, mood and style to any special event. Robert and GayLyn’s combined talents enable every client to get the event they desire, from the transformation of bare space into a magical setting to the fun and flair of the decor and florals. Our ability to transform our client’s desires from concept to reality makes for an exciting and cohesive planning process.

GayLyn spent her upbringing in the retail and commercial design world. This helped her to develop a passion and appreciation for design and led her to a degree in interior design. GayLyn started her professional career in Las Vegas, fulfilling a high level of expectations. From top tier multi-million dollar luxury resort communities, to custom homes and commercial buildings, GayLyn quickly became a “go-to” professional for elite design services.

With 18 of experience in client management and design development, transitioning to high-end event planning seemed like a natural fit. Her extensive background in all aspects of interior design provides her with the means to create elaborate and detailed event concepts for her clients. GayLyn founded In The Event in 2007, and has since turned the home operated venture into a fully staffed, full service event-planning firm complete with an extensive inventory of rental items.

Together, GayLyn and Robert have changed the scenery for live events in Utah.

Robert LaSpina

Robert comes from a background of event producers and has over 30 years of experience in the industry. Born in Las Vegas, he traveled the world with his family producing live events for Theaters, Casinos, Television and even U.S. Presidents. It was during this time he worked with lighting, sound, video, staging and special effects while also learning how to produce, direct and choreograph – giving him an unprecedented background in all production elements of a live staged event.

Prior to co-founding In The Event, Robert worked with some of the worlds best Production Companies, designing and managing all audio and visual aspects of corporate conferences valued at up to 2.5 million in technical requirements. Further, Robert managed the Salt Palace Convention Center contract, coordinating all AV operations and overseeing the production of events held at the facility. While working as the Director of Hotels and Logistics-Corporate for Encore Productions, Robert directed sales, service, logistics, purchasing, and rentals for numerous Las Vegas properties. Additional experience includes management roles within the audiovisual department of several other large Las Vegas hotels and casinos.

Up returning to the Salt Lake City area, Robert teamed up with his wife, GayLyn, to develop In The Event. For the past six years, Robert has focused on creating custom event solutions for clients including 4Life, Ray Ban, Teva, Ketchum Public Relations, Sundance Institute and Fortune 500 companies. Robert focuses on implementing innovative designs, allowing In The Event to introduce cutting edge event inventory to the Utah market.

Derek Anderson

Senior Designer & Operations Manager

Derek received his Bachelor of Interior Design degree from Utah State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. His interior design work includes interning in Washington DC, where he served as a Junior Designer for high end residential and commercial projects. Upon graduating, Derek worked as the Design Assistant and Store Manager for a local floral and event design company. There he developed exceptional centerpiece design skills, as well as further advanced his graphic design capabilities. Also within his previous position, he constructed stage and set designs, holiday decoration installations and other event related displays.

As the Senior Designer at In The Event, Derek is responsible for all designs concepts for various corporate and private events. He develops floral and centerpiece designs, any necessary graphics, 3D renderings and staging, while also playing a key role in client and vendor coordination. Derek’s extensive graphic skills provide him with the unique opportunity to truly bring event concepts to life months prior to the actual event, guaranteeing all goals and expectations are met. Within his managerial role, Derek supervises various office operations and logistics, as well as employee tasks.

JK Homer

JK Homer received his Bachelor of Science from Texas Tech University and has since amassed over 32 years of experience in all facets of profitable event planning. In 1997, JK founded a Washington, DC based full service event firm and served as the President for over 16 years. Handling everything from client management to marketing and operations, JK grew the company to handle the likes of clients including the U.S. Senate, U.S. Capitol, and The Smithsonian Institute Museums. His technical expertise ranges from lighting design and event décor to load-in logistics and space allocation.

Since joining In The Event in 2013 as the Senior Sales and Account Executive, JK continues to oversee the planning process from the initial sales contact and negotiations through the event execution.

Chelsea Neider

Graphic Designer

Chelsea is a multi media artist who received her Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Salt Lake City as well as her Bachelors in Media Arts and Animation. With an expert knowledge of various design programs, Chelsea joined In The Event in July of 2013 as their Graphic Designer and 3-D Artist. Chelsea works diligently to develop unique client designs used to enhance various event aspects.

Her passion (besides Disney Characters) is witnessing the transformation of event spaces from idea inception to design to reality knowing she was an integral part in each stage of the development. Chelsea is known as “the happy one” and she is always smiling.

Chelsea Mangold

Event Coordinator

Chelsea Mangold has been planning events all her life, born and raised on skis in Colorado, she has coordinated ski racing events since childhood. Chelsea began her professional career as a young teenager working for the United States Ski and Snowboard Association, (USSA) Rocky Mountain Masters organization as their Race Administrator and Event Planner for eight years. She coordinated and planned ski races by interfacing with host club organizations and ski area management to coordinate on hill support, logistics, and award ceremonies for (26) events per year. While in High School she planned events and activities for DECA (Distinguished Business Leaders) of the Future.

She was recruited by the Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Ski Team to become their event manager hosting NCAA Division II events. Chelsea was also President of the Sports Management Club where she planned and executed events, obtained donations and recruited volunteers for ski and sporting events.

Chelsea has worked as the Event Coordinator with the City of Fruita, Colorado coordinating all the recreation center events that brought in thousands of participants from the local area. Chelsea completed her Bachelors of Science Degree in Hospitality and Event Management from Colorado Mesa University. Chelsea brings high energy and enthusiasm while focusing on planning, organization, and idea development, while creating a fun environment.

Tyson has grown up around the event production and audio visual industry. With extensive hands on experience, Tyson knows the challenges that face live events and how to bring them from just a concept or drawing to reality. With a large knowledge of construction and technology, Tyson makes all of our custom design work come to life, whether it be a stage set piece or a new custom LED light design, he knows how to make it a reality. In Tyson’s spare time he enjoys playing hockey, snowboarding, long-boarding, camping and hiking in the outdoors.

David Fitt

Warehouse Technician

David, born and raised in Utah, has learned everything about the events industry hands on. With a strong knowledge of woodworking and building, David is a great asset to our team. As Warehouse Technician, there is not much that David isn’t involved with. Everything from event set up to building custom designs, all you have to do is ask and he can make it happen. When David is not working he enjoys skating, biking, snowboarding, golfing, and gaming.
